HPE Launching Systems

Hewlett Packard Enterprise launched two converged IoT systems that combine data management and control, compute and storage in a bid to gain more Internet of things workloads.

HPE claims its converged IoT systems are superior because they let enterprises keep more functions at the edge, where they’re needed most. That’s important when quick decisions are needed and there’s no time to send the data to the cloud.

HPE’s Discover Conference

The systems, launched at HPE’s Discover conference in Las Vegas, are designed to couple analytics with capturing data from multiple end points. HPE also said it is boosting its Internet of things (IoT) security services and tools.

Focus Areas

Like a bevy of tech vendors such as Cisco, IBM and GE, HPE is targeting industries such as oil and gas, manufacturing and telecom. Companies in these verticals have the most sensors in the field and are trying to garner insights from the data thrown off them. Tech vendors are targeting the IoT market with a mix of cloud, hardware and software tools.

Another theme from HPE and others is to capture more data where sensors are housed. That move would eliminate the movement of data to the cloud or data center.

Edgeline EL 1000 and Edgeline EL 4000

HPE‘s systems are the Edgeline EL 1000 and Edgeline EL 4000. The systems have integrated various tools and are engineered to survive the extreme temperatures, vibration, and shocks. Inside the systems are data visualization and analytics software. HPE’s Vertica Analytics Platform is embedded on the systems along with Aruba’s VPN client.

Aruba’s VPN

Aside from Aruba’s VPN tools HPE is also integrating its Aruba ClearPass technology to manage network infrastructure and IoT points.

HPE also announced partnerships with GE Digital, National Instruments and PTC to combine its converged IoT systems with operational technology.
