imec encryption for IoT

Nanoelectronics research centre Imec, Holst Center and micro-electronic design house Barco Silex reported that they will team up to actualize information security into sensors for wearable devices and Internet of Things (IoT) sensor networks. Current security solutions for IoT are intended for communication inside one application domain or system.
To understand a higher level of security, novel ideas for verification, onboarding and end-to-end security in heterogeneous IoT networks are required. Imec, Holst Center and Barco Silex’s coordinated effort means to leverage the innovation and design expertise of Imec and Holst Center with the security IP arrangement of Barco Silex to create novel chip models for secure ultra-low power sensors, and novel security ideas for reliable heterogeneous networks.
Barco Silex will convey the required embedded security including crypto IP pieces to be actualized into Imec’s multisensor IC for wearables and Imec’s demonstrator platform for IoT.Imec will create compute and memory structures for minimal overhead of the secure implementation on the overall cost and power utilization of the sensors. In a next step, Imec will consider the effect of secure communication on throughput, response time and other execution parts of heterogeneous IoT networks.
