According to a study a cell phone location is just exact up to around 93 feet.
Led by PlaceIQ – a US-based organization that that builds mobile audiences and analytics from location intelligence for computerized advertising – in a joint effort with autonomous firm called Findyr, the report demystifies mobile location and recognize “ground truth” in regards to device location precision.
Findyr sent people in five US cities to 150 particular areas and requesting that they record their latitude/longitude coordinates within the Findyr application on their phone.For verification of their actual physical location, the participants were advised to send a photo or video from their current location.
“location precision was reflected as the distinction between user location versus actual user location. Precision changed in each of the five cities, but, as indicated, normal location accuracy over the five markets was 93 feet or 30 meters,” the report said.
The mentioned five cities accuracy were Boston — 69 feet, New York — 75 feet, Washington — 76 feet, Chicago — 87 feet and Austin (Texas) — 91 feet.
PlaceIQ clarified that Austin location exactness was more awful than other cities because of its less dense nature and, in this manner, most likely had less Wi-Fi hotspots, however GPS might be more precise in Austin than in a more intensely developed urban environment.
